🎤 The Evolution of Jeraw: From Mic to Machine

Jeraw Harris, also known as Ken Njeru, is a multifaceted Kenyan writer, producer, sound engineer, podcast editor, and former rapper, whose path through music has been anything but conventional.

Born and raised in Buruburu, Nairobi, he first made his mark in 2011 with hard-hitting tracks like Live It Up, KamTujinice, Next One, and I Like What I See — all bursting with his unique vision and voice.

In 2012, his breakout moment came with Live It Up — the first motion picture soundtrack video in East Africa. Featuring intercuts from Nairobi Half Life, Kenya’s Oscar-submitted film of the year, the track became a cultural touchpoint and helped cement Jeraw as one of the Top 10 Hip-Hop Freshmen of the year, according to music platform Get Mziki.

But the journey started much earlier — back in 2004, when a young MC stepped into Club Sikiliza and earned nods from legends like Abbas, Bamboo, and Attitude. Years later, during his film studies at the Art Institute of Atlanta in 2005, Jeraw’s passion for storytelling evolved. A single audio production class rerouted his focus — introducing him to a new creative obsession: beatmaking.

Inspired by giants like 9th Wonder, Johnny Juliano, and Superstar O, and trained through trial, error, and hunger, Jeraw built his production style from the ground up. Rejection didn’t stall him — it sharpened him. From flipping beats in Reason to launching HIPHOP CHAMBER, Jeraw has become a respected name behind the boards.

Now based in Nairobi, Jeraw brings a global ear and local heart to everything he creates. His catalogue includes collaborations with artists like Steph Kapela, Mic 1 Eazy, PoppaDon, and rising US talent Supuu Rehema, as well as youth development work through Dagoretti’s KambiFlani program.
